The Danube is still many feet above flood stage. The crest of the flood has moved down stream but the water levels are not receding quickly. This morning in Regansburg the water had dropped about 6 inches and has another 6-10 feet to go. We have been trying to plan routes that follow the state highways as they are generally higher and drier and frequently have a bike path following along parallel. Getting clear information about what roads and bridges are open has been difficult. I don’t believe that any bridges have been washed away but many of the roads to get to the bridge are closed due to the high water. Wednesday went from a 60 kilometer day on the flat to a hilly 90 kilometer day. In the middle of the afternoon, when the road became impassible, we were forced to backtrack into the hills and come into Regensburg from the back side. It was a beautiful ride but long and tiring.
We loved Regensburg, and beer by the Escher house, and spent two days there. Sorry your campgrounds and bike paths are flooded! Grateful for your partnership. ❤️
I think we should send some help from the US. I've heard about a guy here who has some expertise "draining the swamp." If we send him over, do you think they can put him on permanently?
