When we travel we like to carry along a 1 liter container of juice. It’s a treat that we don’t often enjoy at home but more importantly it’s a quick source of energy and water, a quick pick me up in the middle of the afternoon. Since I do most of the shopping I am the one responsible for juice ‘de jour’. Most of the containers have pictures and many fruit flavors are congnates for the english name. Orange and mango and tropical are all easy. Banana is easy, ananas (pineapple) is the same as German. The one I find perplexing is Jus de’ Raisin. Was it the French side not paying attention or was it the English side that missed the boat? Juice from a raisin??
Tomorrow we head for Mulhouse and then on to Basel on Saturday. We have crossed between a number of watersheds, including the continental divide between the Mosel which runs north and west into the Atlantic and the Vosges which runs south to the Mediterranean. Tomorrow we will cross that divide again as we ride down into the Rhine river valley. The weather has not been great, lots and lots of rain. Last weekend was nice, this weekend is due to be nice but in between lots of rain. The rivers have all been running very high and the canals have all been dumping water to maintain their levels. We plan to spend two days in Basel, washing clothes and bikes and looking around the city. Hopefully the weather will start to dry out and warm up.
The short video below shows one of the canal swing bridges being operated. It was only the second one that we passed, all the other bridges were fixed and high enough for boats to pass under. The whole operation was done by the one person, no motor assist though the unfiltered Gaolouise that the operator is smoking may help.
Really cool bridge! Good biking progress!👍🏻
Just love following your adventures! Keep 'em coming!
